Who we are

Vulcan Restoration Trust is a registered charity that owns and maintains an ex-Royal Air Force bomber, Avro Vulcan B2 XL426, at London Southend Airport, Essex.

XL426 is maintained in full ground working condition (i.e. it is not airworthy but its systems, including its engines, are kept in operating condition and the aircraft is capable of being taxied) as part of Britain’s aviation heritage and as a tribute to the men and women who flew and maintained the Vulcan during the Cold War.

XL426 is housed indoors in Hangar 6 at London Southend Airport, Essex. The Trust also occupies the adjacent Hangar 5 as part of its engineering facility.

As well as displaying the Vulcan at public open days and at special engine run and taxi-run days, the Trust aims to educate the general public about the Vulcan and the important role it played in shaping Britain’s military history in the post-World War 2 era.

The Trust’s aims and objectives as set out in its memorandum and articles of association are:

  • To preserve and protect Avro Vulcan aircraft and other aircraft which may or have been in the past associated with the Avro Vulcan as historical objects for the benefit of the public and to demonstrate and display such aircraft at public events.
  • The advancement of education of the general public in items of historical interest together with the associated equipment thereto in particular in the field of aviation.

The Trust was formed in 1993 following the disbandment of the previous Vulcan Memorial Flight Supporters Club and took over ownership of Vulcan XL426 the same year.

It is managed by its elected Board of Trustees. All the Trust's engineering, fund-raising, events and promotional work is carried out by volunteers. The Trust does not employ any staff or consultants.

Vulcan Restoration Trust, XL426, Southend VulcanVulcan News and the Vulcan Restoration Trust logos are Registered Trade Marks of the Vulcan Restoration Trust.
