Modern History on your Doorstep
Would you like to find out more about the Vulcan and the Vulcan Restoration Trust? The VRT is part of the ‘Modern History on your Doorstep’ programme which is being delivered in partnership with Groundwork East of England and other modern history groups in South Essex. The programme is aimed at community groups and interested societies in the South Essex area. If you’re group is outside South Essex, however, don’t worry – we still give talks in London and the Home Counties.
Our illustrated talks covers the design and development of the Vulcan, its nuclear deterrent role in the Cold War, the ‘Black Buck’ raids in the 1982 Falklands conflict and the story of how one of the mighty deltas came to arrive in Southend in 1986. The Trust’s work restoring and maintaining XL426 as one of only three Vulcans in the world kept in ‘live’ condition is also explained.
Talks can be timed to last anytime between 45 and 90 minutes. As we are a voluntary group ourselves, our talks normally take place on weekday evenings, but if this isn’t convenient, we can consider daytimes or weekends. There is no charge but if you wish to make a donation to the Trust, then that will be greatly appreciated. If your group does not have access to a suitable venue, we will be only too happy to help locate one.
We are actively looking to expand the number of talks we give to community groups and societies in South Essex. If you are connected with such a group or society, or know of one that would be interested, please get in touch with us at the address or the special email address below.
